Spotify was down: here is everything we know about its great interruption

Refresh

“All clear,” says Spotify

This seems to be: after about four hours of problems, Spotify has published the previous message in its state account in X (previously Twitter).

There is no explanation of what caused one of the greatest interruptions in Spotify’s history, but we are grateful to recover our music.

A Spotify spokesman added that “Spotify experienced an interruption today from 6:20 am ed. At 11:45 am edt, Spotify is again and works normally. You can verify the @spotifystatus X channel to get any additional update.” With luck, we will not have to …

On the way to a complete recovery

While some Spotify parts have now recovered (the search functionality, the application home page), the transmission service has not yet returned to its old self, and the Spotify support page continues to inform “in progress.”

A community publication for “inactivity time” summarizes the main problems that people have reported, including
that “the application is not loading correctly” and “reproduction problems.” Previously, many reported that they were even struggling to access the Spotify support site, but that now seems to return at least.

In better news, I can now transmit all the music (not only the songs I have downloaded to listen to offline), so it seems that a Spotify engineer has found the cable of the offensive network and has plugged it in.

Spotify is slowly returning

A few hours ago, Spotify was really out of the count, but now he is sitting in his stool in the corner, wearing stunned and apparently recovering. Downetector reports are falling (now up to just over 12,000 reports in the US.) And we are seeing some elements of the transmission service.

The web player is now going back to most, just like the search function. But Spotify, inclined among the Techradar equipment, still reports problems with the start screen of the application that does not work properly.

If you are on the same ship, one thing that helped me was to close the application (slide up from the bottom of the screen, stop in the middle to show the application switch and then slide up again). This brought many of the functionality of the application, although I am still seeing the annoying message of “something bad” before trying to transmit music that I have not downloaded …

Some recovery outbreaks?

I don’t want to speak too soon, but there are signs that Spotfy’s problems could be slightly decreasing. My colleague Jake Krol in the United States says that the search is now working for him again (it is not yet for me), but that the home page is still low.

More promisingly, the descending graph of Spotify reports has fallen significantly in the United States (above) in the last hour more or less, and is the same in the United Kingdom (now up to just over 8,000). That said, those remain large numbers, so a large number of people are still losing their musical soundtrack today …

It is not a security trick, apparently

Every time interruptions occur on this scale, a common theory is that a great cyber attack is the cause (see the great X Wobble last month). But Spotify has just denyed that this is the case.

A new update (above) in the state account of Spotify in X says that “the reports that this is a security hack are false”, which is at least some good news if you are concerned about the security of your account and reproduction lists.

Spotify has not elaborated the real cause, but has recognized that it is a great interruption, and added that it is “working to solve it as soon as possible.” That previous search solution will not solve everything, then, apologize while I remove the dust from my old CD battery and return to 90s.

Spotify is still very down

Two hours later, I still have the same Spotify problems: I can only play download music and the search is still Borked. It seems that most people are on the same ship, with my American colleagues confirming that the application shows a message “something bad” and that the Spotify website is inactive.

The descent reports remain high and unfortunately we have not yet taken into account of Spotify beyond its previous statement. If that was lost, a spokesman told us “the problem with the search has been addressed and an update has begun to implement all users.”

The search for application not only does not work, but the rest of Spotify seems to have collapsed around them. This is definitely the largest spotify interruption that I have seen in my many years as a premium subscriber: hopefully our musical sanity that is solved soon.

That solution does not seem to be working yet …

About 40 minutes have passed since a Spotify spokesman told us that he was implementing a background solution for “the problem with the search.” But the search does not work for me yet, and thousands of others are still informing problems worldwide in Downetector (above).

In the United States, we are in almost 50,000 reports, a large number that shows how extended are the problems. In the United Kingdom, reports have fallen slightly to 12,000, but they have been quite consistent during the last 45 minutes or so. There are also other notable peaks everywhere, from Australia to India.

What is clear is that this is more than a single search problem: many are still seeing the blank starting note and can only play music offline. The entire Spotify website is also depressed, something that I don’t remember happening, well, never.

We have asked for a Spotify update about your continuous problems and we will inform you as soon as we receive an answer.

What about the other Spotify problems?

As I published below, a Spotify spokesman told us about 15 minutes ago that “the problem with the search has been addressed and an update has begun to implement all users.” But today’s Spotify problems seem to be broader than only a search problem.

While that has been the main symptom for me, many users such as my colleagues in the United States are still discovering that the home page still shows three points (above) and that the web player is still inactive.

That is more like a global interruption than a search problem, so it remains to be seen if the Spotify solution addresses all the problems that many are still experiencing. I’m still reviewing the application with hope …

Good news! A solution is being displayed now

We have just received Spotify news: a spokesman has told us “the problem with the search has been addressed and an update has begun to implement all users.”

We verify twice with Spotify to ask if this will require an application update and Spotify has confirmed that it will be a background update, without the use of the user.

That is good news, but the search still does not work for me in the Spotify application. I guess I will have to wait a time to see that new Bon Iiver album …

This is now a great spotify interruption

The number of Spotify problems reports in Downdector is to continue increasing in the United States and the United Kingdom; This is now the biggest spotify interruption that I can remember for a while. We now have more than 27,000 reports in the United States and 17,000 in the United Kingdom.

The Techradar team is discovering that Spotify’s web player is inactive (above) and many are discovering that their start are not loading in the application.

Spotify has not commented more about what the problems is causing, beyond recognizing in X (previously Twitter) that is having an important bamboleo. We have contacted Spotify and we will update it as soon as we know more, Meanwhile, it ends YouTube!

Spotify acknowledges that there are problems

Spotify has now commented on the problems that many are experiencing, with the state account of Spotify in X publishing that the transmission giant is “aware of some problems at this time and is reviewing them.”

That is a rather vague description, and it seems that users are experiencing multiple symptoms, from the application that informs the lack of internet connection to logging problems.

My own problems seem to be restricted to the application’s search function. Hopefully there is still a relatively simple solution for all problems: we have communicated for Spotify for more details.

Spotify is buggy today

First I noticed Spotify’s problems trying to find a new album: the message “could not load the page” previous, and that is still the case now.

Interestingly, I can still transmit music that is already in my collection and reproduction lists, so the problems seem located in some application functions. Some in the Techradar team have no problem either.

However, Downdector reports do not fall (particularly in the United Kingdom), so it seems to be more than a temporary error …

That is a quite large spike …

At this time, the greatest increase in Spotify problems reports is in the United Kingdom: at the time of writing, more than 21,000 Spotify users have reported problems with the application of smartphones and the web player in Downetector, and social networks platforms such as X are also filled with complaints.

Interestingly, there has been a lower increase in descent reports in the US.
