After increasing the price of their prepaid plans in March, postpaid plans of Optus have now also given a price increase, although data inclusions increase at the same time as a form of comfort.
The new entrance price for an Optus Postpaid plan is AU $ 55 p/m for 50 GB data; That is Small Choice Plus plan, which had a price of AU $ 52 p/m for 50 GB data. As a note, a member of the Au Techradar team is currently in the small choice plan and has been told that they will receive 70 GB of data when price increases enter into force. We have not seen the same change on the Optus website at the time of writing, but we will update this piece if that changes.
The Medium Choice Plus plan has also risen to AU $ 65 p/m for 200 GB data (previously AU $ 62 for 180GB) and the large Plus option plan has increased to AU $ 85 p/m by 400 GB (previously AU $ 82 for 360GB).
The promotion plan, which includes 360 GB data for AU $ 69 p/m (for 12 months, then AU $ 79 p/m), has not changed.
The new clients will pay these prices in the future. As for current customers, these price increases will enter into force on June 4, 2025.
Inclusions have not been changed: customers can still receive a 10% discount on eligible subhub subscriptions and will continue to save AU $ 15 p/m in Optus Sport, along with international text conversations and text messages to 35 countries.
With increased prices in Au $ 3 per month in the affected plans, Optus remains the average telecommunicity between Telstra and Vodafone when it comes to affordability. Telstra’s plans begin in au $ 65 p/m for 50 GB, while Vodafone’s plans begin in au $ 39 p/m (for 12 months, then au $ 49) per 100 GB (usually 50 GB and are available until they are removed).
Should you change your supplier?
Optus mobile plans include generous data assignments in all areas, and among the plans offered by the telecommunicator, the unchanged promotion plan remains an attractive option for its cost / data ratio.
That said, prices have risen in the other postpaid plans, and with a crisis of cost of living that grabs Australian households, those high costs could remove people from the bluish green telecommunicia.
In addition to this, although Optus has increased the data limits with this price increase, it is worth taking into account that, according to the ACC, the Australians use 17.4 GB of data per month on average with a postpaid plan (and 9GB with prepaid). While Optus offers a good part of the data with each of these plans, it can be out of tune with their habits of use.
