Hungary has announced 400 totally financed scholarships for Pakistani students, reinforcing educational ties as both nations move to deepen cooperation in multiple sectors.
The announcement was held during a joint press conference between the Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, Ishaq Dar, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Commerce of Hungary, Péter Szijjártó, held in Islamabad on Wednesday.
During the newspaper session of the press, the two leaders marked the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Hungary and signed several comprehension memorandes (Mou).
The agreements focus on improving collaboration in commerce, industry and cultural exchange, as well as reaffirming the commitment of both nations with regional peace.
Ishaq gave Szijjáró on his second official visit to Pakistan, calling Hungary a positive and reliable partner. He highlighted the role of Hungary in supporting the industrial growth of Pakistan, particularly through the Mogol Group, which has helped develop the country’s manufacturing sector.
The ministers also discussed the regional security challenges, particularly those raised by instability in the Afghanistan neighbor.
Dar informed his counterpart about cross -border security concerns that Pakistan faced and the continuous diplomatic efforts to address them. In addition, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza was raised during the conversations, and both countries expressed the need for peace in the Middle East.
In his comments, Szijáró said that Hungary acknowledges Pakistan’s efforts to maintain stability in a volatile region and expressed solidarity with Islamabad’s peace initiatives. He pointed out that Hungary, as Pakistan, expects a resolution of the war in Ukraine and Peace in the region in general.
When heading to the Scholarship initiative, Szijjartó confirmed that around 1,700 applications from Pakistani students for the 400 spaces had already been received.
He emphasized Hungary’s interest in further promoting people’s contacts through academic exchanges, cultural collaboration and professional associations.
The visit and agreements indicate a new chapter in relations between Pakistan-Hungary, underlining shared priorities in education, commerce, diplomacy and regional security.
