The Permanent Committee of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly No 38 on cattle, fishing and cooperatives has emphasized the need to establish a robust mechanism to monitor fishing activities and guarantee transparency in the award of contracts.
A committee meeting was held under the presidency of MPA Sher Ali Afridi, which was attended by Arbab Muhammad Usman Khan, Ikram Ullah Ghazi, Malik Adeel Iqbal and Abdul Mumin. The committee extensively discussed issues related to illegal fishing and unauthorized fishing in the KP.
The Committee emphasized the need for strong legal measures to stop these illegal activities.
The members requested a comprehensive strategy to guarantee adequate regulation, supervision and balance in fishing operations, as well as a review of existing contracts when necessary.
The meeting requested a report on the situation in the dams of Tarbela and Khanpur for review in the next session.
In addition, the meeting directed that the data for the last five years regarding publications and transfers in the Fisheries Department will be presented at the next hearing.
