A Rawalpindi court sentenced a government driver 37 years of rigorous imprisonment for defrauding citizens falsely promising government jobs in exchange for large sums of money, Express News reported Friday.
The verdict was announced by the special central judge Abdul Rehman Arif.
As soon as the sentence pronounced, the convict was handcuffed and detained from the courtroom.
According to judicial procedures, the convict, who worked as a driver for a government department, had extorted a total of RS4.66 million of an individual under the pretext of ensuring a government post.
The court considered the evidence against him conclusive.
Together with the prison sentence, the Court imposed a fine of RS2 million in the convict. In addition, he has been ordered to pay RS3.74 million to the citizen defrauded as compensation.
The anti -corruption wing of the Federal Research Agency (FIA) had registered the case against the defendants last year.
