The Superior Court of Islamabad received a request for contempt of the Court presented by the senior leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday for accusations of denial of access to the founding president of the Imran Khan party in Adiala Jail.

The opposition leader in the National Assembly, Omar Ayub, and the opposition leader of the Senate, Shibli Faraz, presented the petition after completing the biometric verification in the court.

The petition accuses the authorities of Adina’s prison to violate the previous judicial orders that allowed meetings with the former prisoner.

PTI leaders argue that repeated attempts to meet Khan were deliberately blocked, despite a decision of a larger bank of the Court.

A similar request was previously presented, but it had not been scheduled for the audience. The presentation of Thursday renews the legal challenge about access to Khan, who remains in custody.

The sisters of Imran Khan, Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan, also appeared in the Court in support, along with Akhunzada Hussain of the Tehreek Tahafuz-E-Ainin.

Earlier this week, seven PTI leaders, including the three sisters of Imran Khan, were released after being arrested briefly outside the Adiala jail while trying to visit him.

The response of the Superior Court of Islamabad to the new contempt raffle could have broader implications for the prison protocol, the judicial authority and the rights of political access.
