According to Express News, a formal cochlear implants program was launched in the Hayatabad medical complex (HMC) to support children born with auditory disabilities, according to Express News. The initiative has been introduced by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government in collaboration with Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal.

The Ent (ear, nose and throat) team of HMC has already performed nine successful cochlear implants surgeries as part of the pilot phase.

The procedures, which serve children between six and five years old, are now offered under the SEHAT card program (health card) of the government’s flagship card, significantly alleviating the financial burden for families.

Each cochlear implant surgery costs approximately RS2.15 million. This expense will now be covered through a support combination of Pakistan Bait-Ul-Mal and the Sehat card initiative.

In a recent milestone, the Ent team, under the supervision of specialists in Senior Medical Care, organized a two -day cochlear implant marathon in HMC, during which nine surgeries were carried out successfully.

The hospital administration praised collective efforts and the dedication of the HMC Ent team, accrediting its perseverance as a key driver behind the successful implementation of the program.
