The Punjab government will launch the first Pakistan ration card program on May 1, with the aim of supporting more than 1.25 million low -income families throughout the province, Maryam Nawaz announced on Friday.

Speaking at a ceremony in Lahore, Maryam said the ‘Punjab ration card’ will provide financial assistance from RS10,000 for a four -month period to families fighting for fulfilling basic food expenses. The program is particularly focused on the work class and daily employees.

“This initiative is for those who cannot pay their essential elements of the kitchen,” he said, adding that the government intends to expand the program beyond 1.25 million initial families based on available resources.

Highlighting the broader welfare agenda of his government, Maryam revealed that 30,000 low -cost housing units are currently being built in Punjab, an achievement that said it exceeds the registration of any previous administration.

“In just five months, 30,000 houses are being built. No government in the history of Pakistan has built even 3,000 houses in five years. At the end of this year, 100,000 homes will be completed, if God wants,” he said.

“Our goal is to ensure that each deserving citizen has a roof on his head and the means to build a dignified life,” he added.
