The request for “Diddy” combs to delay his trial has been denied by the court in a new blow to the dishonor rapper.
On Friday, April 18, Judge Arun Subramanian denied the request of Diddy’s lawyers that the trial was delayed for two months, by Us Weekly.
As a result, the trial will begin on its scheduled date, on May 5, which coincides with the MET gala. The jury selection will take place that day, with expected opening statements on Monday, May 12.
The music tycoon fell out of favor when it was arrested by federal charges of extortion conspiracy, sex trafficking, fraud or coercion and transport to participate in prostitution in September 2024.
The rapper denied all the positions, and his lawyer Marc Agnifilo said he was “an imperfect person” but “he is not a criminal.”
“Reserve your judgment until you have all the facts,” Agnifilo said. “These are the acts of an innocent man with nothing to hide, and hopes to clarify his name in court.”
Since his arrest, many new civil demands against Diddy have been filed, which allege sexual violence.
This ruling occurs after Diddy’s lawyers presented a motion to demand that the trial be delayed for two months so that the rapper could obtain “time needed to prepare his defense” after a third accusation was presented.
His legal team argued that there is a “substantially new behavior” alleged in the reviewed accusation and that prosecutors were still producing evidence in one of the positions.
“In these circumstances … we cannot, in good awareness, go to trial on the scheduled date,” Diddy’s lawyers argued. “This is a problem that the government has created, but opposes our reasonable request.”
