MLB news: Trump and Rob Manfred are in the White House in the middle of Pete Rose speech

The MLB commissioner, Rob Manfred, and President Donald Trump met at the White House on Wednesday, MLB confirmed Pak Gazette Digital.

What Manfred and Trump argued is not clear. The Washington Post was the first to inform about the meeting.

“President Trump has been a baseball fan for a long time. As he has done in the past, Commissioner Manfred was pleased to visit the White House again to discuss issues related to baseball with the president,” said a MLB spokesman for Pak Gazette Digital of the visit.

The White House did not immediately respond to the request for comments from Pak Gazette Digital.

One thing Trump and Manfred may have discussed is the issue of the candidacy of the Pete Rose Hall of Fame. Trump said he would forgive Rose posthumously after he died at 83 in September 2024.

“Major League Baseball did not have the courage or decency to put the last ones, Pete Rose, also known as ‘Charlie Hustle’, in the Baseball Fame. Now he is dead, he will never experience the emotion of being selected, although he was a much better player than most of those who did, and can only be called Posthummy. What a shame!” Trump published in Truth Social in February.

“Anyway, over the Next Few Weeks I Will Be signing A Complete Pardon of Pete Rose, Who Shouldn’t Have Been Gambling on Baseball, But Only Bet On His Team Winning. History, and Won More Games than Anyone In Sports History.

Rose is MLB’s success with 4,256 career successes. It was the MVP of the National League in 1974 and it was 17 times All-Star, three times World Series champion and three times batting champion.

However, the star of the Cincinnati Reds became a polarizing figure when the news of his game in the games shook the world of sport. Rose received a prohibition for MLB’s life in 1989.

The meeting between Trump and Manfred also occurs after a characteristic story about Jackie Robinson’s military service briefly retired from the website of the Defense Department for a day before being restored.

MLB celebrated Jackie Robinson on Tuesday, April 15, the 78th anniversary of Robinson Breaking’s Color Barrier.
