Moscow: Russia has said that conversations aimed at ending war in Ukraine have made some progress, but described their contacts with the United States as difficult and complex.
“The contacts are quite complicated, because, naturally, the issue is not easy,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, to journalists.
“Russia undertakes to resolve this conflict, guarantee its own interests and is open to dialogue. We continue doing this.”
The president of the United States, Donald Trump, said Friday that he wanted to achieve a peace agreement quickly, but that he could not participate in the search for an agreement indefinitely “if one of the two parties makes it very difficult.”
The United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, previously speaking in Paris after meeting with European and Ukrainian leaders, said the parties had only days to show progress or Washington would leave their efforts.
When asked if the United States could withdraw from the search for a peace agreement in Ukraine, Peskov said it was a question for Washington.
“We believe that some progress can already be observed,” said Peskov, citing a temporary moratorium on strikes against energy infrastructure, although he said that Ukraine had not adhered to her.
“Therefore, certain developments have already been achieved, but, of course, there are still many complex discussions ahead.”
Peskov, when asked if the energy moratorium had ended, said that it had already been a month, but that the president had not been received to change the position of Russia.
Dmitry Medvedev, deputy director of the Russian Security Council and a representative of Russian hawks, expressed approval for the United States comments on the Social Network Platform X.
“American officials have said that if there is no progress in the Ukrainian case, the United States will wash it.
“And the EU should do the same. Then Russia will solve it faster.”
