Rawalpindi: A tense situation broke out in Rawalpindi around midnight after the police arrested Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) organizer of Punjab Aliya Hamza and several workers and transferred them to multiple police stations in the city.
With the police sources citing a PTI convention without the necessary permission of the authorities as the justification behind the arrests, Hamza along with eight other workers moved to the Line Civil Police Station.
PTI leader Semabia Tahir, while confirming Hamza’s arrest, said that the main organizer of PTI Punjab was arrested at the Women’s Police Station, and five of the party workers had been transferred to the airport police station.
“We had a youth convention in Rawalpindi today from where [Aliya] Hamza was arrested. It is our constitutional right to protest or hold a convention, we have not acted against the law, “Tahir said.
His statement follows the previous rejection of Hamza’s arrest, since he had previously said that the party leader had gone to rescue the arrested workers who lead to their own arrest.
Meanwhile, the arrest of PTI workers led to a tense situation after a large number of PTI supporters gathered outside the Linnes Civil Police Station to protest against police action.
A case has been registered against Hamza and other PTI workers at the airport police stations with incitement -related provisions, resist the police, block the way and interfere with official tasks.
The case, while claiming that the suspects protested in Dhok Kamal Din by blocking the road and turned to the stone throwing against the police, says that Hamza, Muhammid Zahid, Noman Aslam, Adil Munir and Shamim Actab have been arrested by the police.
The development marks the last incident in the pull of the PTI of more than a year with the authorities regarding the attempt of the old ruling part of holding public meetings, with the government by launching a repression against them citing, among others, security and reasons related to the permission.
Imran Khan’s founded party once has the police, and the government’s action against them blaming them for depriving the political space party.
On Thursday, the sisters of Khan, Aleea Khan, Noreen Khanum and Uzma Khanum, together with the opposition leader of the National Assembly, Omar Ayub Khan, the head of the Sunita Ittehad (sic) Sahibzada Hamid Raza and the leader of the opposition of Punjab, Ahmed Khan Bhachar, were arrested by the police Check near the Jail Adial.
The arrests occurred after PTI leaders participated in a verbal altercation with the police for not being able to meet the founder of PTI imprisoned in the Adiala prison.
The altercation occurred more than a week after PTI workers faced the agents of the law near the Adial prison of Rawalpindi, with the police stopping multiple workers and leaders.
