The main leader of Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI), Azam Swati, has said that the party is waiting for a response from former President Arif Alvi before starting any political dialogue, and added that discussions would only take place in support of democracy and constitutional government.
Speaking to journalists outside the Judicial Complex in Rawalpindi on Saturday, Swati dismissed the speculation of a political agreement, saying: “Those who claim that they are on their way have lost their senses,” said Express News.
He clarified that any commitment would not be aimed at ensuring the launch of the founding president of the Imran Khan party.
“If Khan speaks, it will only be for democracy and the Constitution,” Swati said.
He said that Dr. Arif Alvi, an assistant near Khan, was expected to visit last week, but had postponed until next week.
“We expect your answer before taking the next step,” he said.
The comments occurred during Swati’s visit to express solidarity with PTI Aliya Hamza leader, who was arrested a day before.
Swati also commented on the influence on the party.
“I told Khan that I had 100,000 votes in Mansehra, and now not even one. Our position is no longer what it was: today, our strength lies in the founder and the public,” he said.
Swati also praised Alvi as “a great man and Khan’s right hand,” underlining his role in the guidance of any future political movement.
