Money without object
We love to give practical purchase advice on the latest devices here in Techradar. But sometimes what we love even further It is enjoying the luxury and avant -garde technology of the planet more scandalously high -end, avant -garde. That is what we bring in these columns without money objects: you can read the entire series here.
Recently, we discovered a pair of luxury speakers that seem something about Elton’s house “Rocket Man” John. And today we have two pairs of luxury speakers that look like real space rockets, or perhaps robots that would persecute Doctor Who around a quarry, or perhaps something that Jony Ive would have designed in 2003.
These are the new passive speakers of RHEA and Theia of the Swiss Luxury Audio brand Goldmund, and are yours for about $ 108,000 (£ 82,000 / UA $ 171,000) and $ 215,000 (£ 162,000 / au $ 338,000).
If you are a fan of mythology, you will recognize the names: Theia and Rhea are Titan goddesses, and Goldmund also has an even more premium speakers who bear the name of their mythical mother, Gaia.
Gaia speakers are currently sold in the United Kingdom for £ 650,000 (around $ 860,000 / UA $ 1,354,338), so, in comparison, these are purchases of super cheaper budget.
Goldmund Theia and Rhea: key features
Goldmund has already done speakers called Theia and Rhea, but these are new and passive models that admit mono, BI and Tri wired. The firm warns that it will need a very high quality amplification to drive them, since minor amps will not be able to offer the speed that speaker drivers must work at their best.
The speakers are triple in the case of Rhea and four ways with Theia. The RHEA has a soft dome tweeter, a seven -inch medium range controller and a 12 -inch woofer, and Theia has a soft dome tweeter, a four -inch controller, a medium low controller of six inches and again, a 12 -inch woofer.
The frequency response is 27Hz to 25kHz for the RHEA, and from 20Hz to 25khz for the Teia.
As expected, when you ask for a couple of these speakers, Goldmund not only throws some bubbles: each set is packaged in a personalized flight box. That adds to the already considerable weight: the RHEA is 123 kg and Thea is 197 kg. Oh, and that’s by speaker.
Both speakers are available today. If you want something a little more affordable, we have a list of the best stereo speakers.
