Judge Mansoor Ali Shah swore on Monday as the president of Pakistan interim of Pakistan. The oath taking ceremony was held in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, where Judge Munib Akhtar administered the oath.
The lawyers and staff of the Supreme Court were present at the oath taking ceremony.
Judge Mansoor Ali Shah assumes the role during the absence of the president of the Supreme Court Yahya Afridi, who is in an official visit to China to attend the twentieth conference of Justices head of the Supreme Courts of the Member States of the OCS. The conference is scheduled to take place in Hangzhou from April 22 to April 26.
During the visit, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) is expected to be signed between the Supreme Court of Pakistan and the Supreme Popular Court of China.
The agreement aims to strengthen judicial cooperation, with an approach to training, information exchange and collaboration in various legal areas that include international commercial law, arbitration, cyber crime, financial crimes, climate change, judicial technology and dispute resolution.
The Mou also seeks to improve legal assistance in civil matters and improve the application of judicial decisions. Both countries have reiterated their commitment to judicial independence and the rule of law.
