If you have taken a lot of photos, but I would like to be jazzes with a little HDR magic, you are in luck. This is because Google has just added the ability to improve its images with ultra HDR effects on Google Photos. Better yet, HDR changes can be applied to regular images, even if you have already taken and loaded.
As Android Authority pointed out, the function has been implemented in several Google Photos users in recent days. It still cannot be used by all, and it is not clear if it is limited to the best Android phones or will soon be available more widely.
The Ultra Hdr mode of Google Photos allows you to take photos with a wider range of colors than standard images. That can increase the vitality of the image, but will generally need a device with an HDR screen to completely appreciate the effect.
However, the good thing about Google’s ultra HDR function is that it is compatible with previous versions, so your photos will use standard color ranges on regular Android screens.
It also works elsewhere. Google Photos seems to have added the ability to convert normal photos into HDR equivalent, increase their saturation and help them appear much more than they did before. That means there is no need to remember taking the photos in HDR mode first.
Best photos in HDR
The Ultra HDR mode had already been seen in September 2024, but it was not fully functional at that time. Now with version 7.24.0.747539053 of the Google Photos application, it seems that it is beginning to be implemented in a range of Android users.
Once it becomes more widely available, you will find the function in the setting of the Google Photos editor. There, you can change the strength of the HDR effect using a sliding control. It is configured to replace the HDR effect option currently on Google Photos.

Even so, there is no reliable indication of when the function could come for everyone. Hopefully we don’t have to wait too long before it moves.
