- The FBI warns about an ongoing scheme aimed at victims of online fraud
- Victims are encouraged to communicate with a person in Telegram, getting through the chief of IC3
- The person would try to obtain access to the financial accounts of the victims.
Cybercriminals are taking advantage of victims of online fraud, using their state of emotional anguish to cause more damage, said the FBI, revealing that he received more than one hundred reports from such attacks in the last two years.
In the campaign, cybercounts would create profiles of false social networks and unite groups with other victims of online fraud. Then they would claim to have recovered their money with the help of the FBI Internet Complaints Center (IC3). This makes the tricks credible, since IC3 is a real FBI division and serves as a central center to inform the cyber crime.
Those who believe that the claim is advised to communicate with a person named Jaime Quin on Telegram. This person, who claims to be the main director of IC3, is actually part of the scheme. Quin will tell the people who contact his funds and then ask for access to their financial information, to steal even more money.

This is just an example of how the scam works. The FBI says that the initial contact of the scammers can vary.
“Some people received an email or a phone call, while others were addressed through social networks or forums,” he said. “Almost all the plaintiffs indicated that the scammers claimed to have recovered the victim’s lost funds or offered to help recover funds. However, the claim is a trick to revict those who have already lost money in scams.”
To minimize the risk of being a victim of these scams, you must only communicate with the police through official channels. In addition, you must keep in mind that the police (especially those in executive positions) will never communicate with you in this way, especially not to start contact.
Finally, the police will never request their password, financial information or access to private services.
