VITALIK BUTERIN proposes to replace the Ethereum EVM with RISC-V

The Ethereum co -founder, Vitalik Butein, shared a new proposal during the weekend that would radically review the system that feeds its intelligent contracts.

Bterin’s suggestion, which published in the Ethereum primary developer forum, implies replacing the Ethereum virtual machine, the software engine that drives programs on the network, with RISC-V, a popular open source frame that offers built-in built and other benefits. .

The EVM is a key piece of Ethereum’s underlying design and has been seen as one of the main elements that helped the network to succeed in a field full of other blockchains. Many non -stereal networks have used the EVM to build their own chains, as well as an increasing ecosystem of layer 2 networks built on Ethereum, including the Coinbase base chain.

The EVM has long played an essential role in the development of Ethereum. Other chains that use it can connect to perfection with applications in Ethereum, and developers in EVM -based networks can make the transition softer to build applications directly within the Ethereum ecosystem.

Buterin argued that Ethereum’s transition to an RISC-V architecture “will greatly improve the efficiency of the Ethereum execution layer, solving one of the main bottleneck necks and can also greatly improve the simplicity of the execution layer.” (The execution layer is the part of the network that reads intelligent contracts).

The RISC-V architecture, which has seen a limited adoption in other blockchain ecosystems, such as Polkadot, could offer “efficiency gains more than 100 times” for certain types of applications, according to Bugerin. These improvements could reduce network costs, seen for a long time as an important barrier to adoption.

Among the main benefits of RISC-V is its native support for certain types of encryption. The transition to the new architecture could, in Bugerin’s opinion, to be a simpler alternative to the current community plan, which implies the reconstruction of the EVM around the cryptography of zero knowledge.

Buitrin’s proposal is something that developers would address in the long term, comparable to projects such as the beam chain, which seeks to renew the Ethereum consensus layer.

The RISC-V arrives at a broader search for souls for the Ethereum community. Recently, transaction volumes have decreased, and Ethereum’s Token has been left behind the broader market.

Earlier this year, the Ethereum Foundation, the main nonprofit organization that supports the development of the broader Ethereum ecosystem, underwent a leadership transition in an attempt to remedy the impression between the members of the community that the ecosystem lacked a clear route and was losing its advantage compared to the competitors.
