Washington cannot approve amendments that would prohibit Trans athletes against girls

Two proposals that would have restricted transgender athletes to participate in sports of girls and women in the state of Washington failed in a vote on Monday.

The amendments needed 60% of the vote to approve: the proposal that limits the sports participation of girls to biological women obtained 31 of 53 votes (58.5%), and the other that would have created an open division for students apart from the competitions of boys and girls, obtained only 24.5% (13 of 53).

Washington’s state law currently protects the transgender people from discrimination under Washington’s law against discrimination (Wlad). So, even if the acts had passed, there was still another clear obstacle along the way.

The Lynden School Board proposed the idea that only women born participate in girls’ sports. That proposal, says the Daily Cascadia, would also have turned the division of children into an “open” category.

“It is clear to our girls athletes to compete against other athletes that have gone through male puberty is unfair,” said Lynden Superintendent, David Vandaryacht, through Cascadia Daily. “They asked us to address it, and the Lynden School Board is trying to do so in a way that respects and honors the dignity of all students.”

The Trump administration recently froze the funds for the state of Maine because the State does not follow the executive order of President Donald Trump that says that transgender athletes must compete against their gender from birth. However, a federal judge ruled that the administration must “defrost” those funds and cannot reverse “without complying with the legally required procedure.”

The USDA announced the freezing of funds and a review of federal funds to Maine earlier this month after the State refused to provide equal opportunities to women and girls in educational programs.

Maine’s officials filed a lawsuit against USDA last week after the agency’s decision to freeze funds to the State.

The State accused USDA of “retaining the funds used to feed children in schools, child care centers and programming after school, as well as disabled adults in congregated environments”, an argument with which the judge agreed.

Senator Susan Collins, R-MAINE, recently requested that the problems between the administration and her state “solve”, saying that he would continue to fight for federal funds for the State and at the same time be against transgender athletes in biological women’s sports.

The Department of Education also launched an investigation into the State due to the problem.
