At least 16 people have lost their lives and several others suffered wounds after their passenger bus sank into a ravine near the Khan Bola Station, in the Jamshoro district of the province of Sindh, according to local police officers.
The unfortunate bus took the workers of the Bheel community who returned home after completing wheat harvest work in Baluchistan, said attached commissioner Ghazanfar Qadri.
The tragic incident occurred near the Khan Ball Police Station that left two dozen injured passengers.
Police confirmed that at least twelve bodies were recovered from the setback site. However, four wounded succumbed to their wounds at the Hospital of the University of Liaquat in Jamshoro, which brought the dead number to 16, hospital sources said.
Rescue teams say five of the injured were taken to the Civil Hospital in Hyderabad. They said that four children are also among the deceased.
The rescue official also said that one of the injured was in critical condition.
Five of the wounded were transferred to the Taluka hospital in Bola Khan, said DC Qadri. However, he pointed out that the hospital lacked the facilities to handle severe cases, describing it as a basic health unit.
The cause of the accident has not yet been officially confirmed, but an investigation is being carried out.
