Cade Cunningham had 33 points and 12 rebounds, Dennis Schroder made triple triple with remaining 55 seconds, and the Detroit Pistons broke their perdemer streak as a 15 record of 15 records of the NBA by beating the New York Knicks 100-94 on Monday in game 2 of their playoff series.
The Pistons, who had not even been in the postseason since 2019, recovered after the Knicks erased a 15 -point deficit to obtain their first victory in the playoffs from the game 4 of the final of the conference this 2008 against Boston. The Celtics won the last two games of that series and the Pistons were swept in 2009, 2006 and 2019 before dropping game 1 in Madison Square Garden.
Now they are back in the Win column, all tied in the series and will be the host of game 3 on Thursday night.
Schroder, who was not even in the Pistons until an exchange in February, nailed the Triple after the Knicks had used a 16-4 race to tie it to 94 in Josh Hart’s overtown. It ended with 20 points from the bank.
The Pistons designed one of the biggest changes in the history of the NBA this season, with 44-38 after a season of 14 wins in 2023-24 that included a losing streak of 28 games, longer in a single season.
They were in good shape to win game 1 with an advantage of eight points after three quarters, before the Knicks used a 21-0 race in the fourth to win 123-112. Detroit built another eight -point advantage after three Monday, and this time he made the big plays after another Knicks rally.
Jalen Brunson scored 37 points for Knicks No. 3, but Karl-Anthony Towns and Og Anunoby were limited to 10 after both ended with 23 points in the first game.
Cunningham recovered with a strong performance after Guard All-Star had only 8 of 21 in game 1. The Knicks fought to keep it out of the painting and defend it without dirtying, since the Panist triggered 14 free throws to the two of the Knicks while building a 55-49 advantage in part time.
The Pistons then kept New York to a single basket in the first seven minutes of the third quarter. Cunningham and Tobias Harris had two baskets in an 11-0 race that Paul Reed, playing because the Isaia Stewart support center was out with the right inflammation of the knee, limited with a basket that gave the piston their greatest advantage with 68-53 with 5:02 that remained in the third.
