In a first for Pakistan, the construction of the underground passage of Jinnah Square Murree Road in Islamabad will be completed in just 35 days, marking a significant milestone in the country’s infrastructure development. The project is part of a larger signals without signals aimed at relieving traffic congestion from Islamabad airport to Murree.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited the site to inspect progress and ordered officials to guarantee timely completion without compromising quality. “The speed is important, but the quality should not be compromised,” he emphasized during the visit.
The underground step, which will cover 479 meters and will have three traffic lanes, is also part of a broader effort to improve connectivity and reduce travel time.
The plan includes expanding a contiguous bridge with two additional lanes on each side, and expanding four nearby sliding roads to facilitate the softest traffic flow.
Minister Naqvi also instructed the authorities to administer alternative traffic agreements during construction to minimize inconveniences for the public. He said that the signal -free corridor will benefit both local residents and tourists addressing long -standing traffic congestion problems in the capital and improving access to Murree.
The president of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), Muhammad Ali Randhawa, informed the minister on the status of the project, stating that the work in the structure and the road network is progressing quickly. He expressed the confidence that the project will meet the ambitious deadline.
