- The X5 is an X4 update with a larger sensor, a better construction quality and a longer battery duration
- We are still waiting for the rumored 360 camera of DJI, plus the goopro max 2
- The standard version Insta360 x5 costs $ 549.99 / £ 519.99 / AU $ 929.99
Our 360 degree favorite camera for a long opportunity only improved with a decent, although iterative update.
The new Insta360 X5 occurs a year after the X4, armed with improved low light image and refined video modes, in addition to very welcome design settings, including fully replaceable lenses, our first impressions of X5 are on their way on the way.
The X5 steals a march in the rumored 360 degree camera of DJI even more because GoPro Max 2, whose launch has been stagnated by GoPro for years.
It may not be a great update, but the X5 is better than the X4 where it matters most, and extends further the mastery of Insta360 in the 360 camera space, and it only costs a fraction more than the X4 in the launch.
The standard version of Insta360 X5 costs $ 549.99 / £ 519.99 / AU $ 929.99, while the Essentials package costs $ 659.99 / £ 609.99 / AU $ 1,109.99 and includes an additional battery, a fast charge case, 114 cm Selfie Stick, standard lens cup, lens cape and transport cases.
Let’s take a look at the new in the 2025 model.
X5 updates will contribute largely to improve the use of real world
The upper part of the X5 update list is the twin sensors of 1/1.28 inches newer and larger and the triple ‘AI’ chips (compared to the twin chips in the X4), which should offer a much better light video quality, and we are all for those improvements.
The smallest x4 sensor and the 8K resolution are pushed to its limits on each scenario other than the optimal brightness, but the X5, complete with its Purevideo mode, seems to be a completely more versatile 360 camera.
The active HDR video in the 5.7K resolution is now available to up to 60 fps, while previously the resolution and the table rates were more limited, and that is something we notice in our X4 review.
Construction quality has also been improved, with tougher and more replaceable lenses that will surely be a success with demanding users. 360 cameras have bulbous twin lenses that run the risk of damage, but here they can be changed in case of setbacks.
We also get a magnetic assembly at the bottom of the camera to the Gopro, which makes moving the camera among the assemblies easier and faster.
The waterproofing has increased to 49 feet / 15 m, in addition there is a battery of greater capacity for longer registration times, now up to three hours for 5.7K, an increase of approximately 40% of the X4. The X5 battery can also be loaded at 80% through USB-C in just 20 minutes.
A wind protector incorporated with wind reduction mode improves audio quality in the camera, while a new wireless microphone accessory is designed to easily combine with the X5, and makes it a viable option as a vlogging camera; In fact, the X5 could be its unique action and Vlogging Chamber.
Crucially, it seems that the editing process for 360 degree videos has been refined, with new features and tools in the Insta360 application. These include the new Instáframe mode, which simultaneously records a flat video with the automatic frame (including the skills of detects of AI) to maintain its subject in the center of the action for the video output, without the need to edit, in addition to a 360 degrees version of the video that can be maintained as a backup of additional editions, if you wish. The statistics of Apple Watch’s tastes and Garmin devices can also be overcome.
And those considerable video files can be made automatically back up to the cloud using the Spea360+cloud service, with basic 200GB subscription options, PRO 1TB and 2TYB Premium: prices are on the Insta360 website.
We believe that Insta360 has delivered some sensible updates through the X4 that should make the X5 the most versatile camera to shoot, edit and load. We will bring our first practical impressions shortly, but, spoiler alert if it were not obvious, the X5 is the new 360 degree camera to win.
