So, for what emotionally devastating event is season 2? Ghorman’s massacre, which is not only a greatly crucial moment for many characters involved in the Rebel Alliance, but a whose canonicity has caused a fierce debate among Star Wars fans for many years.
But let’s not go. First, let’s explore how the final season of one of the best Disney+ shows is to put the foundations to represent this serious moment in such a way that it destroys the soul.
In the opening episode of season 2, Orson Krennic of Ben Mendelsohn, also known as the commander of the galactic empire that supervises the creation of the death star, invites a series of high -ranking imperial officers to a secret meeting in the Malthene division.
There, Krennic informs the guests gathered that no one outside this room, despite Emperor Palpatine and a pair of high -ranking officers, is to know what is discussed at the meeting. In fact, no notes must be taken, the personal droids of the officers will have their hard meals once the meeting ends, said meeting should not have been put in their calendars, etc.
With that cleaning outside the way, Krennic interprets an infomercial style video to his fellow employees of the galactic empire on the planet Ghorman. This world is famous for spiders that weave the best silk of the galaxy, which is used to make the best sarga for the most expensive clothes, which are sold throughout the cosmos.
It is a strange mini documentary to show the gathered guests, including the commander of the Imperial Security Office, Major Lio Partagaz and Dedra Meero. But, hey, Krennic is nothing more than eccentric (he is also scary, but we already knew).
Anyway, there is a reason why Krennic played this video, and it has nothing to do with the spiders that inhabit Ghorman. The planet also houses a particularly important material: Kalkite Foliado of deep substrate (DSFK), which is apparently important for the Emperor’s energy initiative.
The public line is that DSFK will allow the galactic empire to believe “stable and unlimited power” (Krennic’s words, not mine) that can be used throughout the galaxy, but that is simply a front for the true intentions of the tyrannical regime. In fact, DFSK will actually be used to cover the lens of the death star reactors. This will allow the crew of the death star to concentrate its ray that destroys the planet to apply enough strength to destroy any planet and its inhabitants that oppose the empire.

The problem of the empire is double. To begin with, excavating DSFK is an incredibly invasive procedure, so much so that it would destabilize the planet’s core and destroy it effectively. If the Empire does not find an adequate alternative to DSFK, you are three years old to locate a substitute, according to Krennic, will have no choice but to start “Gouge Mining” Ghorman for DSFK.
The other problem is that the Empire has little or no presence in Ghorman, so its sudden appearance would lift its eyebrows and potentially lead to a rebellion of its more than 800,000 inhabitants.
But the empire has a plan. When building an armory in Palmo, the capital of Ghorman, the autocratic regime plans to distract Ghorman’s citizens using it as a front to secretly transport to the necessary machines to start digging for DSFK under their noses. With Dera Meero also informed Krennic that he will need an insurgency led by the Empire in Ghorman to give the Imperials an excuse to begin to erect said armory, the empire scheme will also be in full functioning soon.
Very well, so what does this have to do with Ghorman’s massacre? Without spoiling too much, Ghorman’s population is not naive enough to simply take the Empire ‘We are building an armory, honest!’ line to nominal value. With the rebellions that arise throughout the galaxy as the Embrynious Rebrious Alliance begins to fight the dictatorial Empire, it is only a matter of time before Ghorman’s underground resistance is established.
What will be more interesting for Star Wars fans is which The version of the events, none of which has been covered in a large or small Wars Star Wars screen project, is represented in season 2.
This is because there are two incidents that bear the name of ‘Ghorman’s massacre’ in Star Wars literature. The best known takes place two years before the battle of Yavin (2 a. C.), also known as the battle represented in Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope. The other, outlined in the Star Wars timeline: Legends, now not canonical, occurs in 18 a. C., that is, long before the events of Andor.
For those who are not familiar with Ghorman’s massacre, I will not spoil what happens during any of the events. But, with the episodes of season 2 7 to 9 in 2 a. C., fans will not have much to wait to find out which version not only serves as an inspiration for Ghorman’s massacre in one of the new 2025 Star Wars television programs, but also liquidates the confusion about what event is actually Canon.
