More than 37% of electoral requests decided

Islamabad:

Between February 1 and April 20, 2025, the electoral courts ruled 24 requests related to last year’s general elections, which takes the total number of cases determined to 136, approximately 37 percent of all requests that are currently heard in the four provinces.

According to the free and fair electoral network (Fafen), which has been systematically tracing 372 requests presented with 23 electoral courts after the surveys, decisions have been reached in 26 percent of the challenges to the constituencies of the National Assembly and 42 percent of those of the provincial assemblies.

Of the 24 careful requests, 21 were from Punjab, two from Baluchistan and one of Sindh.

In Punjab, two courts in Lahore decided eight cases, one in Rawalpindi decided seven, and one in Bahawalpur decided six.

The two courts in Quetta eliminated each one, while a court in Karachi eliminated only one case.

Meanwhile, no Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa requests were decided during this period.

Despite an increase in the number of requests determined in Punjab compared to the previous months, the general rhythm of decisions slowed.

The network observed that the slowest pace of decisions can be attributed to four courts largely dysfunctional during the report period, including two in KP, one in Punjab and the only court in the territory of the capital of Islamabad.

To date, the three courts of Baluchistan have collectively decided 43 (83 percent) of the total of 51 requests presented for national and provincial constituencies in the province.

The eight Punjab courts have decided 66 (34 percent) of 192 requests. The five Sindh courts have decided 18 (22 percent) of 83 requests. The six KP courts have decided nine (21 percent) of 42 requests.

Of the 124 requests that challenge the results of NA’s constituencies, 33 (26 percent) have been decided so far.

Of these, 19 were from Punjab, eight from Baluchistan, four from Sindh and two of KP.

248 requests that challenge the results of the constituencies of the Provincial Assembly have been decided, 103 (42 percent) have been decided. These include 47 from Punjab, 35 of Baluchistan, 14 of Sindh and seven of KP.

Of the 136 requests decided so far, 133 were dismissed and three were accepted. Among the 133 dismissals, 52 were dismissed by non -maintainability, including 10 related to the circumscriptions of NA and 42 to the constituencies of the provincial assemblies.

Another 21 were dismissed because the accusations could not be tested during the trial.

These 21 included two for NA and 19 for provincial assemblies. Nine requests were removed, including four for the NA and five for the provincial assemblies.
