- The unpublished code suggests that Google can allow users to add cards to Google Wallet playing the card on your phone
- We still do not have a time of time or a release date
- The new feature could accelerate adding new cards to your phone.
Google could be preparing a change in the Google Wallet application that would make adding no contact cards faster and easier.
The unpublished code discovered by Android Authority suggests that Google could soon enable the addition of cards through nearby field communication, or NFC, wireless technology that allows contactless payments.
In everyday terms, that would mean adding a card playing the card on the phone as it would in a contactless card reader.
Apparently, the new option will be found on the “Add payment method” screen together with existing methods, such as manual entry.
And although NFC has the potential to be much faster than adding the details of your card manually, you may still have to enter your CVV (or CVC) number for safety reasons.
The Android authority report did not find suggestions regarding compatibility, so we still cannot say what types of cards and what issues will be supported.
In addition, it is not mentioned whether this feature will be added with the next launch of Android 16 or as part of a smaller update.
How has this not happened yet?
Personally, I feel that this rumor seems so logical that it is almost strange that it is not yet part of the official Google Wallet experience.
After all, NFC technology used by contactless cards, telephones and card readers operate in the same way: there is nothing that prevents a phone from reading a card from a technical point of view.
Speculatively, security concerns may delayed Google’s adoption of the Tap-To-ADD function. After all, the function must be sure so that the cards cannot be added to a fraudulent phone.
In any case, I would be glad to see that this function reaches Google Wallet: paying without contact is a convenient feature, and this new feature will surely facilitate things for users of the best Android phones.
