The European Union has announced an investment of 750 million euros to install artificial intelligence supercomputers in seven sites on the continent.

Seven EU AI supercomputers confirmed
Supercomputers in Finland, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg and Sweden will be deployed as “new world-class supercomputers optimized for AI”, and sites in Spain and Greece will receive updates to improve their status.
With the deployment of the seven new supercomputers, the Commission expects to more than double its EuroHPC computing capacity, which is scheduled to launch in 2025-2026.
“Today we are one step closer to establishing AI factories. Using European supercomputers, we will enable AI startups to innovate and grow,” Virkkunen added.
“We are now prepared to lead with the right infrastructure our ambition for the EU to become the continent of AI. “We are on track to make the AI factories initiative a reality in the first 100 days of the new European Commission.”
AI factories are part of a broader strategy in the European Union to encourage the development and implementation of AI in sectors where it can really make a difference, such as healthcare, finance and manufacturing. Other member states have also been invited to submit proposals by February 2025.
