- The first filtered image suggests that Lidar could debut in the DJI Drones Mini
- The mini 5 could get a larger sensor than the mini 4 pro for a better video
- It is rumored that DJI Mini 5 will take the flight in August or September 2025
The first leaked image of what is said to be DJI’s next mini drone has been shared in Dronexl, a place directed by the outstanding leaks of Dji Jasper Ellens, and could be the next DJI Mini 5 Pro.
With the Mini 4 pro currently occupying the first place in our best guide for the purchase of drones, we are naturally excited that your successor can land soon, possibly in August or September.
The mini 4 pro is already the best sub-250g drone available and the best premium option for beginners, so what updates could I have the sleeve?
I can think of some improvements that I would like to see, and the leaked image, which shows that the drone is being tested in public in China, seems to make fun of some updates that have made DJi fans speak; Let’s see what they could be and what is expected to arrive in the rumored mini 5 pro.
I will tell you everything about the #Mavic4Pro in the next few days. But let’s appreciate this new #Leaked image of the next #Djimini5 stained in nature. Are you as excited about this as me? You will definitely buy this. Health! Jasperhttps: //t.co/izq5WelaqApril 24, 2025
1. Lidar will debut in the mini series
In the granulated leaked image, Ellens has seen front -lidar sensors on the drone camera.
Lidar would give the rumored mini 5 pro a more effective collision avoidance system than the mini 4 pro, especially with little light, which makes it a safer drone to fly during the twilight and at night.
DJI debuted to Lidar in the Air 3S last year, and the SUV drone proved to be more capable of navigating the obstacles and the ground at night than their predecessors, which are equipped with standard night vision and object detection technology.
A mini 5 pro potential would be the first sub-250g drone in the world with Lidar, assuming that it remains within the same kind of weight as the previous versions, more about this below.
As someone who loves to fly in first and last light, and in areas with many points of interest, I would love to see Lidar technology, but it is limited to users who only fly their drones in open spaces on clear days.
2. Longer and more stable flight
Larger engines of that leaked image have also been obtained, which suggests a more robust design and potentially more efficient performance. This could be translated into better wind resistance for a more stable flight, in addition to improved flight times.
Improving stability and flight times could represent a significant update in an area where the mini 4 pro did not improve in its predecessor, the mini 3 Pro. Some leaks suggest flight times of up to 50 minutes, which would crush the flight time of 34 minutes of mini 4 pro in a completely loaded battery.
This improvement would be huge for a miniseries drone: 50 minutes is the type of flight time I would expect from a more expensive and heavy drone.
3. A bigger sensor
Some leaks also claim that the mini 5 will pack a 1 inch sensor, which is a sensor much larger than the 1/1.3 -inch sensor used by the mini 4 pro.
The specifications of the camera of a drone are of great interest to me as a photographer and filmmaker, and a larger sensor could be the most significant update in the following model: it must offer a cleaner image with little light, with a better dynamic range, useful in bright conditions.
It would take a better image quality in a challenging light on a greater resolution, but we could also see an increase with the 5.3K video, which would mark an update on the 4K 4 -Pro video, which is available up to 100 FPS. The biggest sensor could be the springboard for some of the largest video updates that the mini series has seen so far.
4. A new address for design?
Returning to the leaked image again, which clearly shows that the drone has propeller guards, as well as those of Flip Dji. This would be the first time for one of DJI’s mini drones, but just because the drone in this image has propeller protectors that it does not mean that the final version has them, they could simply be a safety measure for the preproduction test phase of the drone.
If a mini 5 pro has such a design, you could feel more like a Flip 2. This would mark a new address for the mini DJI series, and the reaction to this possibility has been mixed. On the positive side, propeller protectors make a safer flight in narrow spaces; But adding guards will affect weight and flight performance, and many fans will wait for a continuation of the existing free guard design.
5. Not so mini?
The attraction of the DJI Drones Mini Drones is that each model falls under 250 g, which keeps them in the weight category largely without restrictions, and is essential for beginners and casual users.
However, if the previous speculation is true, and the mini 5 in fact arrives with lidar sensors, heavier engines and a larger image sensor, it would surely make it a heavier drone than the mini 4 PRO, which presses less than 250 g.
Could this next model be the first DJI Mini Drone in bowing the scales above 250 g? And if so, would the rumored update of the price of placing the drone in the next weight category?
Surely not: if there is a characteristic that I would love to see in the next mini DRON of DJI, it is one that has been there from the beginning: a sub-250g weight.
