Mahrang cancels the hunger strike in jail


Quetta/Karachi:

The head organizer of the Balochjehti (Byc) committee, Mahrang Baloch, ended a hunger strike one day after the Superior Baluchistan Court (BHC) admitted his plea for revoking his arrest, his lawyer told AFP on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the leader of Byc, Sami Din Baloch, while talking at a press conference at the Karachi Press Club, also confirmed that Dr. Mahrang Baloch and others have canceled their five -day hunger strike at the request of lawyers and families of other by -detained activists of Byc.

Mahrang Baloch, 32, was arrested last month for charges of terrorism, sedition and murder. She and four other detainees had stopped eating Thursday in protest against the alleged misconduct by the police and the abuse in detention.

On Monday, the BHC admitted for listening to his request to revoke his arrest, said his lawyer Imran Baloch. “The petition was admitted by the Superior Court and notices were issued to the government,” said the lawyer, added that an hearing was scheduled for Wednesday (today).

Sami Din Baloch told reporter that Dr. Mahrang, Bebo Baloch, Gulzadi Baloch, Sibghatullah Shahji and baby Baloch had been on the hunger strike in jail during the last five days, adding that his health was quickly deteriorating and his condition had become very critical.

“We had serious concerns about the health of our leaders inside the prison. Therefore, yesterday (Monday), a group of families of political prisoners and major lawyers brought them together with them in jail and persuaded them to end with the hunger strike. And they finished the hunger strike,” he added. (With additional information from AFP)
