“It is something that I brought about me and my son brought about himself, so it is one of those things in which we have to take this on the chin. And we are absolutely doing that and assuming all the responsibility, and I hope we grow up and be better for that,” Ulbrich said during a press conference on Wednesday.

Ulbrich said he did not know that his son was responsible for the joke call until after the draft, but that he was “shocked” when he learned of the development. The Halcons assistant coach then made the team aware of the situation and said that Sheduer and his father, Deion Sanders, a legendary former star of the Atlanta Falcons, were “incredibly friendly” once he contacted them.

“Obviously he is not happy and shocked,” Ulbrich told reporters. “Then, I made the hawks aware of the situation. And our next course of action was to try to have a participation of the Sanders family so that we could apologize in person, what we could do.”

The NFL said the punishment arose from a failure “to avoid the dissemination of confidential information distributed to the club before the NFL draft.”

The Cleveland Browns selected Sanders in the fifth round on Saturday. Shortly after the selection, Sanders led to social networks To share a brief but emotional message: “Thank God.”
