- Nintendo no longer allows two Nintendo Switch systems to simultaneously play the same digital game while they are connected to the Internet
- A new system update, which added virtual game letters, has eliminated the ability to do this
- Users can still play a copy of a digital game offline through the online licenses option
According to reports, the new Nintendo Switch update has made two systems play simultaneously the same online digital game.
Nintendo has just expelled a great update of the Switch system before the launch of Switch 2, which adds several new changes, including a feature that now refers to digital games and DLC as virtual game cards.
This function is now available on the start screen of the console and allows users to virtually load and expel their software as physical game cards.
However, players now report that the feature is preventing two users from playing the same online digital game at the same time, something possible before through an escape (through Eurogamer).
Before the update, the switch games bought on the main console of a player could be played in a different account on that device, and the original owner could also log in and play the same game in a secondary console as well.
This would essentially allow the owner of the game and another person playing the game online simultaneously on different devices, but the addition of virtual game letters now makes it impossible.
Players can still play a copy of a digital game while they are offline through the online licenses option that can be found in the profile settings.
“If this option is enabled, the bought digital software can be played while the console is connected to the Internet, even when the virtual game card for that software is not loaded on the console,” says the online license settings.
“However, when you use an online license, only the user logged in the Nintendo account that was used to buy the software can play it, it will not be playable for other users on the console.
“Your virtual game cards can be used to play software regardless of this configuration. Online licenses cannot be used on multiple consoles at the same time. Online license and virtual game card for a software title cannot be used at the same time.”
The Nintendo Switch 2 will also offer virtual game cards for some games. The console is launched on June 5, 2025, for $ 449.99 / £ 395.99 or $ 499.99 / £ 429.99 for the Mario de Mario Kart bunch.
If you are looking to have in your hands the new console, the early orders of the United Kingdom and the early orders of the United States are already live.
