The NFL began to supply draft prospects selected with single -purpose phones, but that has become a problem for players, equipment and, yes, the league itself, because the numbers are filtering with an unacceptable frequency now.
You know about the filtration of the Telephone number of Shedeur Sanders. That was quite public and, ultimately, it is easy to solve.
Sanders phone provided by NFL
It was in all social networks and the defensive coordinator of the Atlanta Falcons, Jeff Ulbrich, had the number of Sanders, supplied to him by email from the NFL, and that somehow was put in the hands of his 21 -year -old son Jax, who later facilitated a viral call to Sanders.

What may not know is that the phone that Sanders received the call was not his. It was provided by the NFL only days before the draft.
Even Sanders said in one of his published videos of the incident that the phone “is not in my name.”
Sanders added: “I just received this phone yesterday.”
That is true because the NFL provided the phone so that the teams could be sure to immediately reach Sanders and other perspectives and not have cross -communication lines, while the perspectives could have been on their personal phones, maybe communicate with friends and family or simply in a dead cell area.
NFL provides phones to help television
And here is the kicker: the NFL began to supply these phones of a single purpose to ensure that their Draft transmissions were not uncomfortable or became uncomfortable with telephone calls that did not reach the players, a former league official to Outkick said Thursday on Thursday.
So, basically, the League provided phones for selected prospects to make sure the calls were made at the exact moment that the equipment needed them and the exact moment in which the television partners wanted them to obtain the calls in the air to maintain their transmissions humming.

The NFL provided the phones and then provided approximately 2,000 NFL employees and the club with the numbers by email, confirmed multiple sources.
If this does not seem an inefficient way to ensure that a transmission of the NFL draft delivers the iconic moment of perspective, the team’s response, then consider these facts:
Sanders was one of a two -digit prospects number, some that have not been publicly identified, who received joke calls to their phones issued by the League, an estimated league source on Thursday.
NFL needs to investigate its own role
The NFL has been a mother on this subject that is not saying that she is investigating.
That is ironic because one assumes that NFL’s investigation would have to start with no less than NFL itself.
Did the League send the numbers to a group of unnecessarily broad people? That is possible because not only the general managers, their staff and the coaches obtained the numbers, but the secondary employees and some media also did, said a source.
Therefore, public relations, executives who are not soccer, even some team managers and training personnel may have obtained the list of numbers delivered.
The League may have to resort to the list of people who obtain the numbers to their single -purpose phones in the future because, well, it has a problem that you do not like.
And a reason why NFL does not like this problem is because it has become public.
Only in this draft, we know that the list of players who received joke phone calls before being selected includes: Sanders, the Giant Corridor Abdul Carter, the defensive Tackle of the Browns Mason Graham, the closed wing of the Tyler Warren Colts, the offensive liner of the commanders Josh Conerly, the offensive liner of the Bills Chase Llundt and McCord Kyle McCord room.

Source: two -digit perspectives affected
There are others, according to a source.
“I received some earlier calls in the day from 609 numbers and 215 numbers, so I am, well, when I received that phone call from 215, I thought it was another joke call,” McCord told journalists in the Philadelphia area. “But lift the phone and have [general manager] Howie [Roseman] On the other hand, it was great. “
McCord really received multiple joke calls before the draft began. There were so many that when the legitimate call came from the Eagles, I expected it to be another joke.
“I really didn’t think it was legitimate, to be honest, because I received a lot of 215 calls obviously before the draft,” McCord said. “And, obviously, sitting there anxious to see which area code appears and was 215.
“So, I’m thinking, you know, I don’t know who it was going to be. And then I lifted the phone.
The joke phone calls are as old as, well, telephone calls.
And they are not new in the NFL.
Not new but more problematic jokes
In 2013, two 20 -year -old girls obtained in some way the then general manager of Bills, Buddy Nix, and then GM of Buccaneers Mark Dominik at a telephone conference. And, surprisingly, during the call, the two GM proceeded to discuss free agency’s plans for six full minutes.

Yes, funny, but not for the player who was mainly discussed: Field Marshal Ryan Fitzpatrick.
But the NFL 2025 draft seems to be the boiling point for the league in joke calls.
Wait some changes in how it manages the distribution of numbers, the former league employee speculated, even if his own research finds nothing bad in his actions.
