The funeral prayers of the PML-N senator and chief of Jamiat Ahle Hadith Pakistan, Professor Sajid Mir, were carried out in the field of Iqbal College, with thousands of people, including prominent political, religious and social figures.
The funeral was directed by Sheikh-Ul-Hadith Hafiz Masood Alam, taking out a great congregation of the entire political and religious spectrum. Among those who attended were Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Maulana Asad Mahmood, Allama Ibtisam Elahi Zaheer, Senator Abdul Ghafoor Haideri and Maulana Ahmed Ludhianvi.
Professor Saxid Mir died on Saturday at the age of 86 after a heart attack, according to Pakistan’s Associated Press, citing family sources. His death has sent shock waves in Pakistan’s political and religious communities.
Following his death, the central executive council of Jamiat Ahle Hadith Pakistan has appointed Maulana Abu Muhammad Turab as interim chief of the party. Coming from Quetta, Maulana Turab was selected through mutual consultations, the party confirmed in an official statement.
Professor Mir, a venerated scholarly and respected political leader, had multiple titles, including a master’s degree in English and Islamic studies, a degree in economics, and also graduated from the traditional Islamic curriculum dars-e-nizami.
Chosen for the Senate five times in a PML-N ticket, Mir was known for his integrity and was personally invited by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to the competition elections, never requested a ticket himself.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described him as a visionary statesman and Islamic scholar, praising his constant voice against extremism and sectarianism. “His absence has left a vacuum in national policy that will be difficult to fill,” said Prime Minister in an official statement.
The former Prime Minister and President of PML-N, Nawaz Sharif, also expressed a deep sadness, calling for religious, academic and parliamentary contributions of MIR “unforgettable”.
