Pahalgama attack and diplomatic consequences
On April 22, 26 people were killed in an attack on a tourist site in Pahalgam, located in illegally occupied Indians Jammu and Kashmir (Iiojk). India accused Pakistan of participation without presenting evidence, a claim that Islamabad denied strongly.
The Indian government responded by announcing several measures, including the closure of the Wagah-Attari border crossing, issuing travel notices against Pakistan and suspending the Indo Water Treaty.
In retaliation, the National Security Committee of Pakistan warned that any interruption of the water flow would be considered an act of war. The Pakistan Senate also approved a resolution that rejected the accusations of India.
