Beijing: At least three people died, another 14 remained missing and 60 were hospitalized after two ships that carried tourists overturned on Sunday in southwest China, Chinese media.

Passenger ships overturned “in a river in a tourist attraction” in the city of Qianxi, Guizhou province, Xinhua The news agency said.

The report immediately offered more details about the type of attraction or circumstances surrounding the incident.

Rescue workers were looking for 14 people reported as missing.

The Chinese president, Xi Jinping, urged “total efforts” in the search and rescue operations and the treatment of the injured, Xinhua saying.

XI also “stressed the importance of strengthening security measures in tourist attractions” and other “great public places,” said the agency.

Vice -Prime Minister Zhang Guoqing was sent to the scene to supervise rescue efforts.

Sunday’s incident occurs just over two months after 11 people died in a boat collision in center of China.

The accident in the province of Hunan occurred when a passenger boat hit an industrial ship, throwing 19 people around the board.
