Gaza City:
The representatives of Hamas and the United States have made rare direct conversations in Qatar, two Palestinian group officials said to the AFP on Sunday.
“There have been direct conversations in Doha between the leadership of Hamas and the United States with respect to a high fire in Gaza, an exchange of prisoners and the entry of humanitarian aid,” said a senior Hamas official, and added that the conversations “are still ongoing.”
A second Hamas official said there was “progress … especially in the entry of help to the Gaza Strip” and the possible hostage exchange for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli custody, “particularly about Edan Alexander”, an American-Israeli captive in the possession of militants.
The second official also reported progress “in Alto El Fuego in the Gaza Strip.”
Hamas continues to celebrate 58 hostages seized during the attack of October 7, 2023 against Israel.
Israel finished the last high the fire, which lasted two months, on March 18, launching a great offensive in Gaza and increased its bombing of the territory.
He has also cut all aid to Gaza, saying that he would press Hamas to free the remaining hostages.
