The American Olympic Anita Álvarez needed to be rescued from the pool when she passed out and almost drowned in the Aquatics World Championship in June 2022.
The artistic swimmer finally helped the United States.

She opened about the incident in an interview with People magazine, which was published on Saturday.
“I remember that suddenly I began to see the light through my eyes and thinking: ‘Oh, I’m not breathing’, just when they started putting an oxygen mask,” he said.
Álvarez said that the entire incident “exploded much more than what” would have thought.

“But learning how those photos inspired people changed the way I looked at him,” he said.
Álvarez is now focused on his career outside the pool. He joined the United States Air Force and graduated from the basic training in January. He is a member of the World Class Athletics Program, which helps military members to continue their training while serving the country.
Since then, he has returned to the pool to prepare for the World Championship at the end of this year in Singapore hoping to return to the US team. For the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Álvarez has three bronze medal and one silver in the world championship.
