We had strong indicators for a time that Apple is experiencing with cameras in the ear as inputs for Apple’s intelligence. And according to a new report, Apple plans to have cameras on Airpods as soon as 2027. It will also add a small camera to Apple Watch in 2027 and will release its first smart glasses equipped with camera.
That is according to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, but another report suggests that the cameras may not be cameras as you can imagine: last year, the respected Ming-Chi Kuo analyst said that Apple had the objective of putting infrared cameras on Airpods at the end of 2026.
These cameras could see gestures, which could then be used to control the application or characteristics of the system. It is possible that Gurman and Kuo describe the same outbreaks.
What Airpods will come with cameras?
Here there is a puzzle: if Apple is on the way to launch Airpods Pro 3 this year, which is what we expect and has been rumored for a long time, then 2027 seems too early for another iteration of Airpods Pro: the first generation extended from 2019 to 2022, and the second generation is expected to work from 2022 to 2025.
Then, on that base, Airpods Pro 4 is not due until the end of 2028, quite a while after the Gurman reported chamber timeline.
It is very unlikely that Apple puts a new premium feature as it is in Airpods less than Premium, so if we assume that Airpods Pro 4 will not be before usual. That leaves us with two options: Airpods Max 2, or an even more pre -premium type of Airpods Pro – Airpods Ultra, someone?
I bet that the cameras that come in Airpods Max, because all reports on cameras have been treated for headphones equipped with camera, and are sold much better than Airpods Max.
But adding another level to the Airpods range would put the work of Steve late turning: instead of its preferred line of three, well, better, better, it could mean five different flavors of Airpod: standard airpods, standard airpods with Anc, Airpods Pro 3, Airpods Max and Airpods Ultra. That does not seem very apple.
But perhaps the date of 2027 is off, or there is some other turn. In any case, we will have time to wait and find out.
