Chicago was the host of the Annual NBA Draft lottery on Monday night. Despite entering the lottery with only 1.8% probabilities, the Dallas Mavericks got the best selection for this year’s next draft.
But the Mavericks were not the only franchise that experienced a good unexpected fortune in Chicago. The San Antonio Spurs and Philadelphia 76ers also obtained the rights of the selections in the top three. The surprising events of the night caused a strong response from the PHoenix Suns star, Kevin Durant.

Durant suggested that the current panorama of the NBA draft allows a considerable level of uncertainty.

More specifically, the Suns striker seemed to highlight the morale of organizations that fall short after using tank strategies hoping to obtain a better choice.
“Tanking must be really stressful in an organization,” wrote the MVP of the 2014 NBA in X.

The Charlotte Hornets once again ended well below the .500 brand, ending the 2024-25 season with less than 20 wins. The Washington Wizards, who celebrated the second general selection in the draft last year, did not register more than 20 wins in the last regular season.
Despite the dull records and the relatively strong probabilities of obtaining a superior selection, the Hornets and the Magi finally obtained selections outside the first three.
The probabilities of the NBA lottery have been flattered in recent years, which makes it more unlikely that the equipment that presses the restart button ends up being rewarded with the rights of a selection of three first.

However, it was only a few years ago that the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Houston Rockets ended a season with some of the poorest records of victories in the League. The Thunder and the Rockets entered this year’s NBA playoffs as the first and second seed of the West Conference, respectively.
Meanwhile, the Suns seem to be at a crossroads. This low season, Suns’ main office will have to decide whether to press the restart button such as Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal Trio proved to be an adventure to a large extent without success.
Phoenix lost the postseason after finishing the 2024-25 season with a 36-46 record. The Suns separated from coach Mike Budenholzer in April after just one season.
