- Communication devices have been found in solar investors created by Chinese
- These have the potential to destroy the electricity grid
- It is unknown how many were found or the intention behind them
Uspass communication devices have been discovered in solar investors created by Chinese, devices that play a “critical role” in renewable energy infrastructure, PakGazette information. This has led US energy officials to re -evaluate the risks of emerging technologies produced in China.
Energy investors occur mainly in China, but are used worldwide to connect solar panels and wind turbines to electrical networks, in addition to being used in heat pumps, batteries and electric loaders of vehicles.
It is reported that in the last nine months, some batteries bought from Chinese suppliers have been discovered with hidden communication devices such as cellular radios, according to sources familiar with the matter.
Rogue components
Experts have warned that communication devices could evade firewalls and change investors remotely, which represents a great risk to feeding networks, since they could change the environments, damage the energy infrastructure, destabilize the grid and cause generalized blackouts.
It is not yet clear how many of these communication devices were found, nor the nature of the devices themselves, and the intention behind the plantation of these is unknown. That said, the United States Department of Energy has confirmed that it continually evaluates the associated risks “with emerging technologies and that there were significant challenges with manufacturers that reveal and document functionalities.”
This is not the first time that solar networks have been directed, and security defects leave them vulnerable to being kidnapped and even disabled. It was discovered that 46 vulnerabilities discovered by Foresout allow computer pirates to implement the execution of remote code, denial of service, the acquisition of devices and access to cloud platforms or confidential information.
It seems likely, given recent events and the increase in geopolitical tensions, which the United States seeks to transfer production to domestic manufacturing plants for a safer supply chain, however, it is worth noting that Huawei is currently the largest supplier provider in the world, which represents 29% of shipments worldwide in 2022.
