While their Boston Celtics will fight to keep their season alive on Wednesday night, Jayson Tatum underwent successful surgery to repair an Achilles tendon that broke into a defeat of game 4 against the New York Knicks.
Tatum’s path to recovery begins now, and spoke for the first time since he was injured in the fourth quarter of game 4, which could make the entire 2025-26 season of the NBA be lost.
Tatum published a photo of himself in a hospital bed after surgery with a thumb up.

“Grateful for all love and supporter (prayer emoji),” Tatum wrote in an Instagram legend.
The Celtics published their own screenshot of Tatum, saying: “The return will be greater than the reverse.”

Tatum was having his best playoff performance of 2025, scoring 42 points in 16 of 28 shots with seven triples made against the Knicks in the game 4. He also had eight rebounds, four assists and four robberies.
Boston was down at the time of the injury, and Tatum tried to plant on his right foot to go after a loose ball, but immediately hit the floor twisting with pain.

Tatum was helped out of the court by the Celtics staff, and the multitude of Madison Square Garden applauded in a sample of respect while heading to the locker room. MRI’s results the next day confirmed what the team feared. Tatum had a torn Achilles that required surgery.
It will be a long return trip for Tatum, who will probably make his fourth first consecutive team of All-Nba. He starred in the victory of the NBA finals of the Celtics over the Dallas Mavericks last season.
The Celtics expected to go to their backs, and although many believed they would happen to the Knicks in the semifinals of the Eastern Conference, Boston exploded two 20-point deficits in games 1 and 2 to fall into a 2-0 hole.

The Celtics won game 3 on the road, and the loss of game 4 had more ramifications to face a 5 disposal game in TD Garden.
