- The next generation Wh-000xm6 headphones are finally here
- They seem familiar, but they bring a folding design
- New processor and microphones for a better noise cancellation
It has been a long time, but Sony has just made its next generation, flakery Wh-000×6 official headphones. We have already published our complete Sony Wh-000xm5 review if you want to see them directly at a deep look, or keep reading to learn the essential.
The XM6 looks a lot like the Sony Wh-1000xm5, with a modern appearance and well-sized headphones, but the company promises a leap in performance and has solved an important design problem that we have with the previous model.
Sony is sending these very soon, and the XM6 is ready for order at this time to $ 449.99 / £ 399 / Au $ 699. That is remarkably more expensive in the US.
That highest price in the United States coincides with the highest end option of Bose, the Bose Quietcomfort Ultra headphones, but still undermines the rival Airpods Max of Apple. Even so, it is a seriously premium price compared to the best noise cancellation headphones in general.
Leading the updates in terms of technology there is a completely new processor within the WH-000xm6 headphones, the Sony Qn3 chip, which drives noise cancellation, audio reproduction and a lot of other facets.
But let’s break that and the other key changes, starting with a design change.
1. The XM6 can become quite compact
Sony has corrected a good vocal piece of the comments of the XM5 compared to the previous XM4: now it can be folded once again for themselves for better portability, since there are two hinges in the headphones. This is something we are looking for the best travel headphones, it was a real pity that the XM5 dropped them, but the XM6 fixed all that.
This design change also comes with a wider upper headband to help comfort during prolonged listening hours. Sony again promise 30 hours of battery, so a more comfortable adjustment for those long sessions is always a wind. The headband and headphones have the plush memory foam filling inside.
As I mentioned earlier, the headphones are still overcome, which causes them to conform comfortably around the ears. I quickly tried these and neither did I feel tremendous pressure applied to the stems of my glasses behind my ears. The headphones have some tactile controls and the ability to sustain their hand on the cup to activate the way of passing in a jiffy, a great characteristic of the latest Sony headphones.
It will also have a physical button for the pairing and feeding of Bluetooth, a USB-C cable for recharge and an audio connector. Sony sends cables for both in the box.
Finally, with respect to design, Sony Wh-000xm6 will be launched in three colors: black, silver and blue. The transport case included is a little thinner, which should facilitate the backpack. I like to abandon a zipper for a magnetic closure, although that is so long and when it is kept together even when you throw in a bag.
2. Sony promises the best noise cancellation, with a key update
While the XM5 on the XM4 did not offer a generational leap for the cancellation of active noise, Sony promises that the XM6 will offer the best of the best, and there is a hardware leap. Feeding the XM6 is the QN3 processor made Sony, which is seven times faster than the QN1, which fed the WH-1000xm5.
Of course, what is noise cancellation technology with just a chip and without microphones? Sony is also intensifying that specification: the WH-000XM6 has 12 microphones, four more than WH-000xm5. All this should join for the stellar performance of noise cancellation and offer a way of passing that allows you to listen to the world around it.
Sony also updated the adaptive noise cancellation optimizer to function at more frequencies, which should further reduce noise. In this way, you can activate ANC in the WH-000XM6, play your favorite songs and not be distracted by the world around you.
The estimation of the 30 -hour battery life is with active noise or committed passage cancellation; However, that specification jumps at 40 hours with any mode off. There is also a fast charging function, approximately three hours of three -minute reproduction, and with the XM6, it can still hear while loading the headphones, which is a useful update.
3. Better audio quality and calls
Completing WH-000xm6 updates are new controller units in the left and right headphones. These, of course, produce the audio for their auditory pleasure and have a more rigid dome, with the aim of producing a better high frequency audio. That should translate into lighter voices and the ability to choose more details when listening.
The XM5 was not far behind for reproduction, but with the same 30 mm controller size, this looks more like a refinement than a drastic update. In a brief demonstration, I noticed a crispy and clear reproduction with a low improvement as well.
Sony is also increasing standard stereo audio for music or other sources, that is, movies, videos or television programs, space audio for a more immersive auditory experience.
Last but not least, Sony has also improved voice collection to receive calls, dictate messages or talk to a virtual assistant. Six beam formation microphones now capture their voice better, and are matched with a new AI noise reduction model by 2025, which was trained in more than 500 million voice samples, according to Sony.
With promised updates for noise cancellation and audio reproduction, a headphone design that really collapses smaller to facilitate portability, and still a lot of battery life, there is much to like Sony Wh-000M6.
Curious about how good they work? Well, go see our full review: the short version is that they are very, very good, but they are overcome in some areas by competitors … but like all the bounders, they are incredibly strong.
The Sony Wh-000xm6 is now available in those three tones for $ 449 / £ 399 / AU $ 699.
