Toronto-David Goyer, the filmmaker whose credits include the Blade trilog, The Dark Knight and the Apple TV Foundation series, said Friday that he is building a new science fiction universe based on blockchain called an emergency.
The emergency world, according to Goyer, presents spacecraft, relics and white holes: basic science fiction foods that will serve as a basis for an expanding transmedia project built within the incentives, the new Goyer blockchain platform.
In a discussion panel at the Coindesk Consensus Conference in Toronto, Goyer appeared along with Sy Lee of Story Protocol, the block chain centered on intellectual property on which incentives and emergency are based. There, Goyer presented his vision of the incentives, saying that the platform will allow fans to cook the emergency universe along with professional narrators.
“The idea is that we are going to involve the community in all this, and they will have the opportunity to create characters that join the podcast, join the animation, etc.,” he said.
Goyer criticized the Hollywood approach for the construction of IP, calling it “very top” and slow to adapt. “Franchises are built in the film and television industry [on] Models that are a century of age, “he said.” It is very difficult to innovate. It is very difficult to enter Hollywood if you are a newcomer. “Web3, he added, could help change that.
Story Protocol, launched in 2023, has raised more than $ 80 million sponsors, including A16z, Hashed and Endeavour. The platform offers tools to register, track and monet intellectual property in the block chain.
“Each intellectual property has its own program, licenses and royalty exchange rights,” Lee explained on Friday. “Without any intermediary, someone can remix, license and basically build on another person’s IP,” he added. “In accordance with the rules established by the IP owner […] They could share the advantage together. “
Goyer said he wrote a 2,500 page pay bible to anchor the emergency universe. “We hired a group of really talented conceptual artists who had worked in the Harry Potter and Star Wars franchises, and a series of science fiction authors awarded with Hugo and Nebula to write stories inside the universe using the Bible I created,” he said.
This material also served as training data for an AI agent, called “Atlas”, which Geyer said it will help taxpayers cook within a predefined narrative framework.
“This is what I would say that it is a kind of sanctioned use of AI, where we are not only scraping information,” he said.
Visitors of the emergency platform can read about their characters and configurations or generate their own. Then, the community can vote stories and images generated by users. An editorial board, chaired by Goyer, will determine what presentations become part of the official canon.
“We will let our community vote for the characters that the community has created,” he said. “Then, the editorial board, that we are me and some other people, we will decide which of these characters best adapts to the general franchise.”
“AI, Web3, Blockchain: none of these things disappears, right? The whole world is becoming token,” Goyer said. “So, for my good, I thought this is something I need to learn and get involved.”
While AI and Blockchain have generated fears of loss of employment and the commodification of creative work, Goyer said his hope is to use technology in a way that enables artists.
“It’s really about deciding if I’m going to put my head in the sand, or if I’m going to have a seat at the table and see, in my own way, if I can help guide this in a beneficial way for creative types like me,” he said.
