Indy 500 Qualification: Colton Herta suffers a terrifying disaster

Colton Herta was involved in a terrifying accident during the Indianapolis 500 rating on Saturday.

He was entering curves 1 and 2 to 236 mph when he lost control of his vehicle and turned. Auto No. 26 hit its front part on the wall on the rear streak. While driving back, Herta’s car left in the air and overturned.

The car continued on the rear streak and turns 3 and 4. He clung to the wall before stopping.

Herta was able to get out of the car and get away from the terrifying accident.

“I am fine. Fortunately, today, these accidents look more scary than they feel,” Heta told Fox Sports after leaving the emergency care center. “It does not mean that one felt good, but I think the team will be working hard at this time trying to prepare the support car. It is probably impossible to try to get it today.

“Terrible day for this to happen … There are no real signs that lead it. We were super happy with the car this morning and they released us. We could not even turn around 1. So, yes, stinks but I’m fine. We’ll continue.”

Until Saturday, Herta was a 16-1 shot to win the Indy 500.

Herta has nine victories in her Indycar series career. He won for the last time in Nashville to finish the 2024 season. He had three final top-10 this year and one of the 5 best.

It will enter the Indy 500 ninth in the classification of points. It was seventh last season in Indy.
