Angel City defender, Savy King, was discharged from the hospital, just over a week after collapsing in the field during a game and needed surgery to treat cardiac abnormality.
King published a photo of herself at the hospital holding a heart -shaped pillow and giving a thumb on social networks on Sunday.
“I am still finding the words to express how much their love and support have meant to me in recent days. What I know is that I would not be overcoming this without my incredible family by my side, my incredible teammates who have presented me and prayed for me, the fans, the entire football community and the outstanding medical team here in ACFC that saved my life and worried about each step in my way.” “I know that God has me and I am looking forward to recovering and returning to the field!”
Angel City issued a statement that said King had been discharged from the hospital the day before.
King, 20, collapsed during the second half in a match of the National Women’s Soccer League between Angel City and the visitor Utah Royal on May 9.
It was treated in the field for more than 10 minutes before being taken into ambulance to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Once there, doctors discovered cardiac abnormality and she underwent surgery on Tuesday. His prognosis was good, the team said.
The players and fans were shaken by the incident, but the game continued, a movement that was widely criticized. Later, the League said she was reviewing her policies.
The NWSL players association was one of those who said the game should not have continued.
“These moments demand that humanity, a good judgment and a restriction. Any medical emergency that requires the administration of attention that saves lives must end the play. The game should not have continued,” said the NWSLPA.
On Friday, a declaration of the League expressed its regret for allowing the party to continue.
“The health and well -being of the entire NWSL community are still our highest priority, and in any similar situation in the future, the game should and would be abandoned,” said the statement.
Angel City visited Bay FC in a match on Saturday night, the first of the team from the King collapse. Before the beginning in San José Paypal Park, both teams wore shirts with ‘SK3’ printed on the front as a tribute to King. Angel City’s captain, Sarah Gorden, also held King’s shirt during the team’s photo.
The NWSL commissioner, Jessica Berman, spoke with journalists in part time.
“All we could do is learn from experience and conclude that in a future situation, we will make sure that our policies and protocols do not allow the game to continue,” he said in his first comments about King’s collapse.
King was the second selection especially in the 2024 Draft NWSL by Expansion Bay FC and played 18 games for the club. He was changed to Angel City in February and had started in eight games for the team this season.
