Indy 500 champions, Josef Newgarden, and Will Power were beaten with a great penalty less than a week before the green flag falls for the race.
The Penske team pilots will be forced to start at the back of the field on the modified attenuators, the Indycar series announced on Monday. The team’s strategists for both pilots were suspended for the race.

“The integrity of the Indianapolis 500 is essential, and this violation of the Indycar rule against the modification of this part and using it ‘as supplied’ is clear,” said Indycar president, J. Douglas Boles, in a statement. “The penalty should be more than simply starting where cars could have described anyway, if they are given the opportunity. The cars belong to the field as two of the fastest 33; however, starting in the tail of the field is the appropriate penalty in this case.”
Indycar said that Newgarden and Power will lose qualification points, and were fined $ 100,000.
“The positive impulse around the NTT Indycar series and the Indianapolis 500 has been in a steep crescendo in recent months, and we want it to be clear that our intention is to maintain that impulse and discourage teams to put Indycar in positions where it calls for the integrity of our office and the level of the game game,” added the added bowels.

“As we look at the rest of the week and the race this weekend, we will do our best to make it clear that this is not only the best race on the planet, but also the races where the best win in completely fair conditions.”
Indycar said an illegal filling in the seams of the attenuator was found, according to Fox Sports.
The president of the Penske team, Tim Cindric, said on Sunday that the modification was made to make vehicles elegant and not give it an advantage.
“In our eyes, it is not a performance advantage, but at the end of the day, if they do not like sewing, they do not like sewing to be filled,” Cindric said through Fox Sports. “You have to do what the inspection process is and adjust to that.”
Newgarden won the Indy 500 in 2023 and 2024. Power won the race in 2018.
Each pilot will now have to achieve the impressive races to get to the front and possibly win the race.
INDY 500 will be broadcast on May 25 in Fox with pre-collery from 10 am et. It will also be available to broadcast live on FoxSports.com and the Fox Sports application.
