- Project Starline released in 2021 and now it’s Google Beam
- This year is being implemented, adding 3D to video calls
- There is also a real -time translation component for technology
It is possible that I have already seen Google’s Starline Tech project, which reinvents the complete 3D video calls. He mocked for the first time more than four years ago, and in Google I/O 2025 we obtained the news that it is being implemented in its entirety with a new name: Google Beam.
Since its inception, Google Beam’s idea has been to make you feel as if you were in the same room as someone when you are in a video call with them. However, instead of using headphones or glasses, it is based on cameras, microphones and AI technology.

“The combination of our AI video model and our light field screen creates a deep sensation of dimensionality and depth,” says Google. “This is what allows you to make visual contact, read subtle signals and generate understanding and trust as if they were face to face.”
The beam participants must sit in a custom cabin, with a large and curve screen that can generate a partially three -dimensional representation of the person they are talking about. The first commercial clients will get the HP team at the end of this year.
Real -time translation
There is another element of Google Beam that has been announced today, and which is real -time translation. As expected, this is driven by AI technology and facilitates conversation with another person in a different language.
According to the demonstration that Google has shown, the translation is only a second or two behind the speech, and it works in the same way that a translation could be added after someone who speaks in a video recording.
It is another impressive part of Google Beam’s experience, and offers another benefit for organizations with equipment and customers worldwide. According to Google, you can preserve the voice, tone and expression, while changing the language in which the audio is spoken.
However, this part of the experience will not only be available on Google Beam: now it is being implemented within Google now reunits for consumers, although you will need the Google Ai Pro plan or Google AI Ultra plan to access it.
