I write about the vacurers to live, and although the performance varies, most of the new models these days tend to look more or less the same.
Then, when the news of a new incorporation to the Vacuum Alignment Dyson landed in my inbox, I hoped to see something similar to its existing models: slippery and high quality, but not especially distinctive or surprising.
How wrong he was.
The newly presented Dyson Pencilvac not only has an unusual name, it is one of the most unique aspirators I have seen. This brand knows what you are doing in this market: it makes some of the best wireless vacuum cleaners you can buy, and today’s best Dyson vacuum cleaners include features that you still can’t find any other place.
So, while Pencilvac deviates very far from the proven and proven formula of what works for vacuum cleaners, I am very optimistic about their performance. Here is a summary of the most intriguing features in this new launch …
1. It is ridiculously thin
The most immediate notable of Pencilvac is that it is incredibly aerodynamic. Without the head of the floor, everything has 1.5 inches / 3.8 cm in diameter. To make that possible, the brand had to develop a new and small engine: the Dyson Hyperdymium 140K engine has only 1.1 inches / 2.8 cm wide, and is completely hidden inside the handle.
The Pencilvac is also impressively light, registering 4 pounds / 1.8 kg. For the context, the lighter option in our best summary of wireless vacuum at this time is 5.7 pounds / 2.6 kg, and there are a series of models that weigh more than 6.6 pounds / 3 kg.
In general, when the vacuum shrinks, sacrifices power. That is why portable vacurers tend to be much less “dirty” than full size options. That is valid for the Pencilvac: there are 55AW of suction, compared to 115AW for the V8 (the oldest dyson stick aspirator in the current range) and a huge 280AW for the last and best gen5detect. However, although it is unlikely to be suitable for truly deep cleaning, that is a decent amount of suction due to size and weight.
As a score, the diameter of 1.5 inches / 3.8 cm is not incidental. The founder of the brand, James Dyson, says: “For a long time I wanted to make a vacuum of only 38 mm in diameter (just like my last hair dryer, the supersononic r).” The Dyson Supersonic R is the pipe -shaped dryer that was originally launched only for professionals, but recently joined the main consumption range.
2. There are cones instead of rollers
Advancing at the end of the business, and you will find the new floor head of ‘Fluffycones’. It sounds like a Pokémon, but it is actually a cleaner head reinvented. The vacuum cleaners traditionally have a brush roll, maximum two and have a tube shape. The Dyson Pencilvac has four brush rolls, and all are conical.
There is a logic in the form of strmecer: it helps direct the long hair along the roll of dust, while with the parallel rollers the hair tends to wrap and stay there, until it arrances or attacks it with scissors. The Dyson hair screw tool also has a conical brush roll, and works exactly as it is intended when it comes to boarding long hair.
The cones are projected to the sides so that they can directly clean the edges of the rooms, and everything can be flat to the ground, with a free space of only 9.5 cm / 3.75 inches of the floor.
I am interested in Dyson’s description of the Rollers as ‘Fluffy’, because in the brand’s vocabulary, that usually indicates a soft roller for use only on hard floors. In fact, the more I look at this emptiness, the more I am convinced that it is a specialized model only to use on the hard floor. It is not specified in the press material that I have so far, but it would make sense with the slightest suction and a smaller dust capacity.
3. There is no visible cup of dust
One of Pencilvac’s most disconcerting things is that it doesn’t seem to have a cup of dust. Of course, there is one, like the engine, is hidden inside the handle.
The capacity is almost nothing: only 0.08l. However, Dyson has introduced a dust compression system, which uses air To crush the particles to take the least possible room. Dyson says he means that he can keep physical volume five times.
The emptying process has also been reinvented, with a thrust leverage system replaced by a “container ejection mechanism without touch.”
While pushing dust and debris, the mechanism cleanly cleanses the ‘shroud’. I am not totally clear what the ‘shroud’ is in this context, but I know that keeping internal mechanisms clean is key to efficient vacuum performance, so this seems good.
4. The floor head shines and seems to float
In addition to diverting the hair while cleaning, the floor head cones have another trick under their sleeves. The cones rotate in opposite directions, the objective is that this void is cleaned equally when it is pushed forward as when it is removed. This is a weak point in the regular spongy floor head: he has no problem absorbing things when he moves forward, but removes it and the rubble will accumulate behind him.
I am intrigued how this new approach in practice works, especially because Dyson describes it as “floating” on the floor. I also wonder if I could make this void completely reversible, since the mango section looks very symmetrical.
Dyson has also added “laser” lighting to the front and rear of the floor head. This is another characteristic borrowed from the exiting sponge floor head, and helps create large shadows in smaller pieces of dust, which could otherwise lose themselves. It only works on hard floors, which is another indication that this vacation is probably not for carpet.
There is an intriguing addition to the alignment of tools in the form of a ‘combi-crevice rotating tool, designed for cleaning in uncomfortable gaps. This seems especially high -level cleaning, where it can be difficult to make your angles correct. It has a particular sense for an ultra light emptiness like this, which is much easier to lift above its head than its average stick emptiness.
As apart, it seems that Pencilvac is a button instead of operating the trigger. That is dictated by the simplified form, but it is also great news for maneuverability and easy to use: the fact that many Dyson cows still use a trigger to light is a perpetual bugbear of mine.
You will also get a conical hair screw tool, similar to that included with the most recent Dyson Stick, to address long hair in furniture. Both can be stored on the magnetic load spring.
6. It is connected to the application
I am much less excited about this characteristic, but it seems that this is Dyson’s first wireless vacuum cleaner to connect to the Mydyson application. The application will provide more information about battery life and also report on the filter status. However, there is also a screen on the vacuum that shows the remaining battery, so I hope that the application connection is an optional extra that is essential.
Price and availability
The Pencilvac will arrive in Australia first, with the launch scheduled for August 2025. It must go on sale in the United Kingdom at some point in 2026, and I am waiting for information about whether/when it will come to the United States. So far I have no price information: I will update this article with more details when I have them.
