Lawyers demand the release of Imran Khan

LAHORE:

A law convention held in Lahore on Saturday demanded the immediate release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and political workers, since he urged that all national problems are resolved through dialogue, while asking to avoid the use of force.

A statement issued after the Convention organized by the Bar Association of the Superior Court of LAHORE and the Pakistan Lawyers of the Lahore Bar Association also demanded that all political workers “who have undergone forced disappearances outside the constitutional and legal framework” are immediately released.

The Convention also strongly condemned the recent amendments to the Law of Electronic Crimes of Pakistan (PCA), stating that these changes violate fundamental rights: freedom of expression and press.

“The lawyers also express solidarity with journalists and media workers throughout Pakistan who are fighting for freedom of expression,” the statement added.

The Convention also defended the legitimate claim of Water Pakistan under the Water Treaty of the Indo (IWT), which India unilaterally suspended after a militant attack in Kashmir on April 22.

“The statement strongly condemns India’s attack on Pakistan’s sovereignty. The prompt response of the Pakistan armed forces, especially the Pakistan Air Force, is very appreciated,” he added.

Going to the Convention, main lawyer Salman Akram Raja said previously that lawyers have the great responsibility of telling people that their vote was stolen in the February 2024 elections.

“We have been imposed a system based on lies. The 26th constitutional amendment is part of that falsehood. After manipulating the elections, there was an attempt to control our courts,” he said.

Raja, which belongs to the PTI de Imran Khan, said that those who manipulated the elections cannot tolerate democracy in this country. He said that for 78 years, democracy has been repeatedly attacked.
