Indycar’s rookie, Robert Shwartzman, Indianapolis 500 reached an unfortunate end on Sunday.

Shwartzman began the race in the post when he completed the fastest time around the Indianapolis Speedway engine in the qualification, but all the jubilation became pain like a debacle in Pit Road almost seriously injured a handful of members of his crew.

He entered his boxes after completing about 87 laps, and his car slipped when he entered the box. Four of their crew members tried to avoid the sliding car but failed. A crew member was taken on a stretcher.

“Honestly, I felt very strange when I was slow in Pit Lane. I closed both front tires, which is generally not the case,” said Shwartzman. “I wasn’t sure if they were the brakes or because the tires were cold. I tried to be very slow. But as soon as I touched my brakes, the whole front was lost and went directly to the boys.

“It was really terrifying because at the time I franted it was just a passenger.”

The clash was enough to finish his day.

The prema racing pilot was the first rookie to take the pole position since 1983.

“It’s really sad because we did a good job in the qualification,” he said. “But it is the Indy 500. Anything can happen. Many strong pilots are out of the race or behind. This is the Indy 500. This happens.”
